How to make a printable word search

Use the maker for a lesson, club activity or wedding table. You supply the words; Cluekin arranges them into a grid and creates a separate answer key.

Build and check your puzzle

  1. Enter 6–20 different English words, one per line. Each needs 2–20 letters after spaces and hyphens are removed.
  2. Choose Easy for words that run right and down, or Standard to add diagonals. Keep the word list visible for a more guided activity.
  3. Select A4 or US Letter, then choose Build word search. If you change words or directions, build again to update the grid.
  4. Review both Puzzle and Answer key. Download both pages together, or select Puzzle only or Answer key only.

Match the PDF paper size to your printer and select Actual size or 100%. Check the letters, word list and margins on one sheet before printing the full set. Review filler letters too: random letters can form unintended words.

Give players the puzzle page and keep the answer key separately. For a simpler puzzle, try fewer, shorter words with Easy directions and the word list shown.

Keep a reusable copy

Choose Save project file under Reuse or save a word list to keep the words, settings and grid seed. Open that file to work on it later. You can also import answers from a saved Cluekin crossword or use Make bingo from these words to start a bingo card set.
