THE CLUEKIN PRINT GUIDE
18 wedding crossword clue ideas to make your own
Build a puzzle your guests can solve together. Mix familiar facts with a few inside jokes, and make sure each clue has one clear answer.
The examples below are fictional. Replace them with details you are comfortable sharing, then use the wedding crossword maker to arrange your answers and preview the design.
Choose answers your guests can know
Start with 8–12 ideas on paper. Include a few facts family members may know, a few friends may know, and some details visible at the wedding itself. You do not need to use every idea. A short, readable puzzle is more welcoming than a crowded page of private jokes.
Imagine a table where guests know you in different ways. A question about your pet might get someone started; a clue about the cake or flowers gives a newer friend a way in. Keep private information and embarrassing stories out of the puzzle.
Cluekin accepts 5–20 English answers, each with 2–20 letters. Spaces and hyphens disappear in the grid: NEW YORK becomes NEWYORK. Choose words with some letters in common so they have opportunities to cross, and revise any answer the studio cannot place.
18 clue-and-answer examples to personalize
Read each prompt as a starting point, not a fact about your wedding. Write the answer you actually intend, then adjust the clue so it points to that answer alone.

Turn a memory into a clear clue
Be specific about the moment
“Our favourite place” could fit a city, restaurant or park. “The city we visited on our first holiday” gives players a clearer target. If two answers still fit, add one detail that distinguishes them.
Keep the wording short
A clue has to fit on the page as well as make sense. Remove extra background and use a familiar name for the answer. Check the intended spelling of places, pet names and foods before building the grid.
Give different guests a way in
Ask one person who knows you well and one who knows you less well to try a draft. If both get stuck on the same clue, rewrite it. Guests can solve together; a clue does not need to be a test of who knows you best.
Use a few hint letters if needed
In the studio’s Print step, Normal and Easy add hint letters to the guest puzzle. Hard leaves them out. These options change the shown letters; they do not judge how familiar your personal clues are to each guest.
Check the puzzle before printing
- Proofread both sides. Check every clue against the full answer key, including names and spelling. Look for missing answers, awkward line breaks and any fit warnings.
- Choose the final paper size. The studio offers A4, US Letter, 5 × 7 inch table cards, and 18 × 24 or 24 × 36 inch posters. Smaller cards usually need fewer, shorter clues. A poster needs a print service that supports its size.
- Review readability. Try Larger clue text for a short clue list, then check the preview again. The studio recommends 5–10 short clues for this setting. Use dark text on a light background for an easy-to-read test.
- Print one physical proof. Match the paper size in your printer settings and select Actual size or 100%. Check the grid squares, clue text and margins on paper before making all the guest copies.
- Separate guest and host pages. Download Guest puzzle only for the tables and Answer key only for the host, or keep both in a two-page PDF. If you export the event print pack, its pages have mixed sizes and must be printed individually.
- Set up the tables. Put pens or pencils beside the puzzles, keep the answer key with your host, and decide when you would like guests to play.
